An aapa mire is a rare mire type in Estonia, where peatland alternates with springy little bog islets. The black stork lives in Selisoo, though it is seen very rarely.

The Selisoo Nature Trail is the best way to explore an aapa mire in Alutaguse without getting your feet wet. A boardwalk carries you through the bog, and a viewing platform opens up a panorama across the open mire expanse.
