The trail passes through all three of Lahemaa's main ecotypes — old-growth forest, valley landscape, and coastal forest — in a single day's walk. Finding such diversity along one trail is rare in Estonia.

The Oandu–Võsu Hiking Trail is the longest connecting trail in Lahemaa, leading from the heart of old-growth spruce forests to the coastal village of Võsu. The one-way 25 km route crosses several streams and winds through varied terrain.

The section from Oandu toward Palmse is a mix of forest tracks and natural woodland. The coastal stretch ends on the sandy beach at Võsu.

Winter hiking requires navigation skills — the trail is not marked on every section.
