The Taevaskoja sandstone cliffs are Devonian sandstone — a 375-million-year-old rock shaped into bluffs by river erosion. Suur-Taevaskoda is a natural niche 24 m high and 8 m deep.

The Taevaskoda Trail is a short and rewarding walk into the Ahja River valley, where 20 m high sandstone outcrops form cave-like niches. Taevaskoja's 'great chamber' is the tallest sandstone outcrop in Estonia.

The valley trail follows the bank of the Ahja River, at times narrow and on steep slopes. At the cliffs there are steps and handrails.
