Osmussaar's alvars are coastal ridges formed 10,000 years ago by the dynamics of the Baltic Sea. The island is an important resting place for migratory birds — up to 100,000 birds are counted here during a single migration period.

The Osmussaar Island Trail crosses a protected island with restricted access near the mouth of the Gulf of Finland. The island is reached by boat, and the 5 km loop trail showcases its alvars, coastal boulders, and wartime bunkers.

Seasonal access

The island is accessible from May to October; visits are limited and require advance registration.
