Karula National Park is the highest area in southern Estonia, where the lakes formed in the hollows between moraine hills. Ahijärv is a kettle lake with exceptionally clear water, lying 163 m above sea level.

The Ahijärv Trail runs through the characteristic uplands of Karula National Park, set in a mosaic of small lakes and meadows. The loop around Lake Ahijärv offers a peaceful nature experience.
