The Riisa Nature Trail is the most visited short trail in Soomaa National Park, introducing the phenomenon of Soomaa's 'fifth season' — the spring flood. The trail runs across a floodplain where, in spring, the water reaches up to 1.5 metres deep in places.
The floodplain trail is built on a boardwalk — your feet stay dry even when the surroundings are waterlogged. In spring, expect the smell of meltwater.
Seasonal access
The spring flood usually arrives from late March into April. During this period the trail is at its most dramatic, but the car park may be covered with water — check before setting out.
