Kakerdaja bog is about 8000 years old and grows on average 1 mm per year. At the centre of the bog lies Lake Kakerdaja, around which the peat moss has grown to a thickness of 5–7 metres.

The Kakerdaja nature trail is the most important hiking trail in the Kõrvemaa Landscape Conservation Area, crossing the Kakerdaja bog on a boardwalk. It is one of the most beautiful bog trails in Estonia, where open bog pools mirror the sky.

The entire trail runs on a boardwalk — your feet stay dry. The section beside the wind-exposed bog pools is the windiest.

Seasonal access

The bog is at its most dramatic in spring and during the autumn leaf fall. In winter the snow-covered bog offers a unique sight.
